Foundations & Orientation
Trainees begin with structured orientation in hepatobiliary anatomy, imaging interpretation, and case-based theory. Dr. Arefin and senior fellows establish baseline knowledge, OT etiquette, and the standards expected throughout the programme.
Tasks Involved
Observership & Assist
Phase two places you in live operating theatres — observing, scrubbing, and assisting in laparoscopic and open hepatobiliary cases. You learn intra-operative decision-making, tissue handling, and team dynamics under direct supervision.

Hands-On Operating
Trainees progressively perform graded steps of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, bile duct exploration, and selected liver/pancreatic procedures — always under Dr. Arefin's direct supervision, with structured feedback after every case.

Independence & Certification
In the final phase, fellows manage cases end-to-end — pre-op planning, surgery, and post-op care — and complete a portfolio review and exit assessment. Successful trainees graduate certified to practise independent HPB surgery.
